Stop Being Ignorant

When I used to work in downtown Cleveland, I would often go to the library during my lunch break. It’s an historic building, constructed during the early 20th century as part of the Cleveland Group Plan of 1903. Sometimes I’d read, sometimes I’d just look at the interior stylings, and other times I’d stare in amazement at the homeless men streaming porn while playing with themselves.

There is no greater irony than a man with no job, sitting in a building erected for the express purpose of equipping him with the tools to get a job, and instead using the infinite reaches of the internet to skeet skeet all over his shirt.

The great capitalist John Carnegie spent billions of his own dollars to erect libraries. Being an informally educated errand boy who achieved an incredible fortune, he thought public access to the world’s treasure trove of knowledge would help other disadvantaged Americans elevate themselves too.  It was all a dream, I suppose.

Let’s look at another story, with different characters, but the same moral. This one’s setting is the worst place on earth: a job. One day early in my tenure at a company, I was working next to a guy who had 20+ years on the job. He’s asking me the usual stuff about what I used to do and why I applied to this place. I didn’t want to talk to him so I gave some fake answers. Unable to read my cues, this moron then says, “yeah this is a dead end job. It’s not a career.”

Word?

It’s not a career?

If that’s true, why’d you spend 20 years dead ending yourself?

What’s worse is that this company paid 100% of your tuition at any accredited university. This dipshit showed up every day for twenty years, told himself his job wasn’t a career, then refused to liberate himself from dead end misery by using free tuition. At least the guy in the library was on a meth binge.

Sadly, many of us are a combination of the literal deranged vagrant who looks at titties instead of writing a resume and the braindead zombie who persists in unhappiness despite ample lifelines and opportunities. The internet can be your salvation.

Simply getting on a computer offers infinite leverage for you to improve yourself.

First, introduce yourself to Naval Ravikant.

Next, peruse Coursera to add some stats to your Linkedin and resume.

Then, check out OpenCulture for some 100% free knowledge.

Even the Ivy Leagues offer 100% free knowledge.

After that, subscribe to Audible and start listening to books while jacking your dick at the library.

Lastly, get on some podcasts and turn your life around.
